Please join Ethiopian Orphan Relief, Inc. for Running Water: A 5K trail run and family fun run on November 3rd, 2013 at Sharon Woods Metro Park in Columbus Ohio.
Ethiopia, the fourth largest country in Africa, is one of the poorest in the world. It is very mountainous and most of the population live in scattered rural communities on the temperate fertile plateau in the center and south of the country.
In terms of access to safe water and sanitation facilities, Ethiopia ranks among the lowest in the world. Only 42% of the population has access to safe water supplies, while only 11% have adequate sanitation. Water related diseases are rife and health services are limited.
Proceeds from Running Water will benefit Ethiopian Orphan Relief’s current water project in Dawo Kara, Ethiopia. In addition to providing clean water this project will train people on how to maintain the well, teach sanitation, and allow more children to be able to go to school.
Millions of women and girls throughout Ethiopia spend hours everyday walking to and from a water source. Many girls are unable to attend school for this reason. The average walk to water is more than 3 miles long; the average container of water weighs more than 40 lbs.
Just prior to the race, we will have a 100 yard dash for children 10 and under. After the race participants will be able to enjoy an Ethiopian food sampling and face painting for the kids.
Participants who raise $100 or more in pledges may register for this race for FREE!
